Jack Bauer: {Voice Over} The following takes place between 5:00 A.M. and 6:00 A.M. on the day of the California presidential primary.
{THE HEART RATE SOUND IS GOING FLAT AS TERI AND ALAN WATCH JANET} {THE DOCTORS ARE DOING EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO BRING HER BACK}
{Teri's cell rings}
TERI BAUER: Hello?
JACK BAUER: Hey it's me.
TERI BAUER: Jack, where are you?
JACK BAUER: I'm still on the west side.
TERI BAUER: I though you were coming to the medical building.
JACK BAUER: I'm going to be there soon, is Janet out of surgery?
TERI BAUER: There's been a complication; they're working on it.
JACK BAUER: Listen to me Teri, do not let anyone near Janet that doesn't belong there.
TERI BAUER: Why?
JACK BAUER: I think she might be in danger.
TERI BAUER: From who?
JACK BAUER: I'll explain as soon as I get there, until then do not mention this to anyone okay?
TERI BAUER: Okay.
JACK BAUER: I'll be there soon.
TERI BAUER: Okay Jack. Bye. {They both hang up}
FADE OUT:::
EXT. C.T.U. OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING
{Jack arrives with the cut up body as Nina waits, Jack gets out of the car}
NINA MYERS: Whose car?
JACK BAUER: Penticof's, he was paid to pick it up and get rid of this.
{Jack opens up the trunk}
NINA MYERS: Oh my God. Who is it?
JACK BAUER: That's what you have to find out. All this is connected to Senator Palmer.
{A chopper lands on the CTU helipad}
JACK BAUER: Nina, I need a favor.
NINA MYERS: Starting to add up Jack.
JACK BAUER: Don't let anyone know I took this for personal use.
NINA MYERS: Personal use?
JACK BAUER: {Into cell} Yes pass me through to hospitable security.................................{Walks toward the chopper.} YES HELLO MY NAME IS JACK BAUER I'M A FEDERAL AGENT. I'M COMING TO YOU NOW BUT I'M GIVING YOU A HEADS UP ON A PATIENT. HER LIFE MIGHT BE IN DANGER. {Jack climbs in and takes off}
{Tony walks outside}
TONY ALMEIDA: Jack requisitioned a chopper 15 minutes ago but he didn't log in a destination. Where's he going?
NINA MYERS: He's tracking a lead.
TONY ALMEIDA: So he's breaking protocol again. First he assaults an agent, then he breaks a prisoner out of jail. What the hell's going on here I thought we…
NINA MYERS: Stop following me.
TONY ALMEIDA: I prefer to think of it as watching your back.
NINA MYERS: When I need you're help I'll ask for it.

EXT. IRA GAINES' TERRORIST COMPOUND
{Dan's body is on the ground as Rick and Kim are just staring at it. Gaines walks up to Rick}
IRA GAINES: You see what happens when you lie........Don't ever lie to me Rick.
RICK: I won't.
IRA GAINES: Oh I know you won't......Now bury your friend.
RICK: Where?
IRA GAINES: In the ground. {As Gaines walks away Kim walks up to Rick}
KIM BAUER: We got to get out of here.
RICK: What do you mean we?
KIM BAUER: I don't know how you hooked up with these guys but they don't trust you. Gaines killed your friend. He's not going to let you walk away. The only way either of us is going to stay alive is if we…
RICK: I SAID SHUT UP......
{Kim looks around the compound with Gaines' men all over the place walking around with machine guns and radios always in contact with Ira Gaines.}

INT. PALMER SUITE
SHERRY PALMER: How did you get past Secret Service?
CARL: Good to see you to Sherry.
SHERRY PALMER: David has to prep for a breakfast meeting and the polls are opening in an hour so whatever you have to say…
CARL: David asked me to come.
SHERRY PALMER: Why Carl?
CARL: I don't know.
{Senator Palmer enters and Sherry exits}
CARL: So what's the big emergency David? Thought we had a game plan.
SENATOR PALMER: We did. Until I found out my son had lied to me.........That he's been lying to me for seven years.
CARL: What's going on?
SENTAOR PALMER: Why would Maureen Kingsley run a story this big on super Tuesday?
CARL: Are you saying you believe her about Keith?
SENATOR PALMER: I'm saying my son was involved in Gibson's death and you covered it up. Not only from the law but from me.
CARL: David.
SENATOR PALMER: Someone altered the medical records to make look like Keith wasn't involved. That have only could have been you.
CARL: Sure you want to know?..............You might not like what you find if you open that door.
SENATOR PALMER: It's all ready open. I'm listening.
CARL: The night Gibson raped Nicole, Sherry was still at the clinic and you were flying back, Keith went to see Gibson.
SENATOR PALMER: How do you know?
CARL: Keith told me. He came to me David. He said Gibson pulled a knife, I took him at his word. It was self-defense.
SENATOR PALMER: You made it look like Keith was never there. Why didn't he just go to the police? If it was really self-defense, Keith would have been cleared.
CARL: Yeah but your career would have been over. Gibson was white David.
SENATOR PALMER: I still wouldn't have covered it up!
CARL: You so sure?
SENATOR PALMER: My decision not yours. I don't want you anywhere near me or my family ever again.
CARL: You have never of needed me more then you need me now.
SENATOR PALMER: GET OUT!!!!
CARL: Before you finish crucifying me.....save some nails for your wife.
SENATOR PALMER: Sherry had nothing to do with this.
CARL: How do you think Keith got to me in the first place. {Carl exits}

RICK: What are you doing?
KIM BAUER: What does it look like.
RICK: You think I wanted to leave Janet there? Everything just got so crazy. All we had to do was hang out with you guys. Nobody was supposed to get hurt. None of this was supposed to go down.
KIM BAUER: What do think was going to happen? Smoking that is really going to help. Help me get us out of here Rick.

INT. MEDICAL CLINIC
{JACK FINALLY ARRIVES}

DEVONPORT: Paul Devonport, security team.
JACK BAUER: Jack Bauer, CTU. Thanks for mobilizing your people on such a short notice.
DEVONPORT: We have men at each of the exits. Locked down pretty tight.
JACK BAUER: Good. They know not to let anyone in or out?
DEVONPORT: Staff only.
JACK BAUER: Good.
{Jack walks up to Teri}
JACK BAUER: Teri!.
TERI BAUER: Jack!.
{They hug and are not letting go of each other.}
JACK BAUER: It's okay. I'm here now.
{They kiss}
JACK BAUER: Tell me about Janet.
TERI BAUER: She's stable.
JACK BAUER: Can she talk?
TERI BAUER: No not yet. What did you mean before about her being in danger?
JACK BAUER: Someone doesn't want her talking to me.
{ALAN YORK walks up to Jack}
ALAN YORK: You must be Jack.
TERI BAUER: Alan. This is my husband Jack.
JACK BAUER: Hi Alan.
ALAN YORK: Hi.
TERI BAUER: Alan's been a good friend tonight Jack.
JACK BAUER: I'm glad your daughter's okay.
ALAN YORK: Thank you. She gave me a good scare but she pulled through.
JACK BAUER: If she's up to it, I'm going to need to ask her a few questions.
ALAN YORK: Jack my daughter's been through a lot. I ah…
JACK BAUER: The guys that Kim and Janet were with tonight, Teri says they didn't know them.
ALAN YORK: Janet never mentioned them before.
JACK BAUER: Are you close to Janet?
ALAN YORK: She's my daughter.
TERI BAUER: Jack what are you doing?
JACK BAUER: Trying to find out where are daughter is.
TERI BAUER: Your treating Alan as a suspect?
JACK BAUER: You can handle a few questions, you see our daughter is still missing.
ALAN YORK: I know.
TERI BAUER: Alan, will you excuse us for a minute please?
{Teri and Jack start walking}
TERI BAUER: Jack what is going on? I don't know what you were doing for the past five hours but Alan was with me last night.
{Jack diverts his attention to a man trying to get by security}
JACK BAUER: Hey what's going on here?
MAN: Don't worry about it.
JACK BAUER: What's in the briefcase?
MAN: Don't worry about it.
{Jack grabs the man and slams him on the table}
JACK BAUER: What's this?
MAN: Medication. My brother is in pain.
DOCTOR: Ben, Ben. .....What's going on?
JACK BAUER: Damn it!
{Jack throws the briefcase against the wall}

INT. PALMER SUITE

SHERRY PALMER: What did Carl say?
SENATOR PALMER: I know about Keith.
SHERRY PALMER: Know what about Keith?
SENATOR PALMER: That he went to Carl to cover up the Gibson boy's death. Keith was there wasn't he?
SHERRY PALMER: David, just because Carl wants to feed you some story…
SENATOR PALMER: You sure you're not the one who's feeding the story?..........Thing I can't understand, what I keep asking myself, why you hid this from me?
SHERRY PALMER: I wanted to tell you David.
SENATOR PALMER: But you didn't
SHERRY PALMER: Carl said that you would be exposed.
SENATOR PALMER: Don’t put this on Carl! You keep your own council Sherry, you always have.
SHERRY PALMER: Nothing I say to you is going to make you feel better I know that. I did what I thought was right for our family and for our career.
SENATOR PALMER: What about Nicole? Does she know too?
SHERRY PALMER: We were protecting you.
SENATOR PALMER: Really?
SHERRY PALMER: Yes.
SENATOR PALMER: Or were you protecting your chance to move into the White House?
SHERRY PALMER: I'm just as ambitious as you are. That's why you married me.
SENATOR PALMER: No I married you because I love you, because we were working on something together.
SHERRY PALMER: WE STILL ARE.
SENATOR PALMER: WELL IT DOESN'T FEAL THAT WAY!
SHERRY PALMER: David…
{David walks to the door}
SHERRY PALMER: What are you going to do?
SENATOR PALMER: I don't know.
SHERRY PALMER: Are you prepared to send our son to jail?
{Senator is confused as he walks through the door}

RICK: Everything was always a game with Dan. He acted like nothing could hurt him. And I bought into it.
KIM BAUER: So did Janet.
RICK: Anyway to turn back the clock?
KIM BAUER: I spent every day trying to get away from my mother. Now I can't stop wishing she were here.
RICK: Must be nice. Having a mom you like.
KIM BAUER: You don't like yours?
RICK: Not all women are meant to be mothers.
KIM BAUER: I'm sorry.
RICK: Not your problem.
KIM BAUER: Rick................We got to get out of here.
{Gaines walks toward them}
IRA GAINES: {To Kim} Come with me.......Lets go.......Leave the shovel unless you plan to use it on me.
{Kim drops the shovel.}
IRA GAINES: {To Rick} When I come back your friend better be in the ground.

INT. MEDICAL BUILDING
{Jack calls Nina}
NINA MYERS: Myers.
JACK BAIER: Hey...any word on the John Doe yet?
NINA MYERS: They're thinking time of death between eleven and midnight last night.
JACK BAUER: That's when we were tipped on the Palmer hit. How close are they to making an ID?
NINA MYERS: They just sent tissues to the lab.
JACK BAUER: That will take to long.
NINA MYERS: We're going as fast as we can Jack.
JACK BAUER: Put Jamey on it, we have to take care of this now. What else is going on over there?
{Teri sitting down talking to ALAN as Jack is still on his cell}
TERI BAUER: I'm sorry about Jack.
ALAN YORK: It's all right, we're all pretty up tight.
TERI BAUER: Jack's more up tight then the rest of us.
ALAN YORK: I thought you told me that he sat behind a desk.
TERI BAUER: Truth is half the time I don't know what he's doing. He can't tell me, it's a security thing.
ALAN YORK: Must be tough on you.
TERI BAUER: Sometimes.
ALAN YORK: But you deal with it?
TERI BAUER: Right now he's just worried about Kim.
{Jack walks to Teri}
JACK BAUER: Walk with me.
{They walk down a hallway}
TERI BAUER: What is it Jack? Why is there all this security here? Who wants to hurt Janet?
{Jack pauses for a moment getting ready to tell Teri what's going on.}
JACK BAUER: Today someone is going to try to kill David Palmer. That's why I was brought in last night.
TERI BAUER: Why is Janet in danger?
JACK BAUER: Because she was with Kim.
TERI BAUER: Our daughter is missing.........You saying that relates to an assassination attempt?
JACK BAUER: They must know that I've been assigned to protect Palmer.
TERI BAUER: You think this person kidnapped Kim?......Oh my God!
{Teri starts to cry as she holds Jack very tight}
JACK BAUER: Teri....I'm so sorry.................I know this is all happening because of me. {Cries a little} I'm trying to keep a wall between my work and my family and the walls coming up and I don't know what to do.
TERI BAUER: What do they want, what do they want from Kim? Can't we call the police?
JACK BAUER: No we can't. Not without risking Kim's life.
TERI BAUER: What if it's too late Jack?
JACK BAUER: It's not too late. Kim is okay, they took her for a reason and that was not to hurt her. ......I promise you we are going to get her back.

JAMEY FARREL: Nina this keycard is are best lead on the Palmer hit.
NINA MYERS: I'm not dropping the keycard. I called in Milo.
JAMEY FARREL: Milo's an outside contractor.
NINA MYERS: Which is why we can trust him. Look Jamey Jack wants you on this. I'll brief you on the way.

INT. PALMER SUITE
{Senator knocks on a hotel room door}
MIKE NOVIC: Who is it?
SENATOR PALMER: It's David.
{Mike opens the door}
SENATOR PALMER: Sorry to wake you like this. Something's come up. I was hoping I could keep you out of it.
MIKE NOVIC: I'm your chief of staff David, I shouldn't be kept out of anything.
SENATOR PALMER: It's a private matter.
MIKE NOVIC: You're running for President, nothing's private any more. Come in.
FADE OUT:::
INT. MEDICAL BUILDING
JACK BAUER: Where are you going?
ALAN YORK: Oh they ah, moved Janet upstairs to the ICU.
JACK BAUER: She's out of recovery?
ALAN YORK: She's a little hazy but she's awake.
JACK BAUER: Alan, I'm sorry about before.
ALAN YORK: I understand what you’re going through.
{Jack's cell rings}
JACK BAUER: Excuse me.
{He walks away a little bit.}
JACK BAUER: Yeah.
NINA MYERS: X-rays show a surgical pin in his kneecap. We'll have a name in no time.
JACK BAUER: That's great work Nina. Call me as soon as you have something.
{Hangs up}

INT. MIKE NOVIC'S HOTEL ROOM
MIKE NOVIC: The minute Maureen breaks the story you will freefall from the polls. The media will start turning this thing twenty four seven. They will pick you clean then go to work on the bones. Chances are your party will try to cut away. I'd say you're textbook unelectable.
SENATOR PALMER: So you're right about withdrawing from the race.
MIKE NOVIC: No! Christ...
SENATOR PALMER: You just got done telling me I can't win.
MIKE NOVIC: I told you what to expect. We can still win if we play this right. I think you can come back from this. David, your the most important presidential candidate this country's had in a long time....Believe it or not you're making history.
SENATOR PALMER: My son is involved in another man's death. They all covered it up.
MIKE NOVIC: I don't want to seem crass but the important thing here is you didn't cover it up. You didn't know.
SENATOR PALMER: What's that say about me?
MIKE NOVIC: You still want the job David?
SENATOR PALMER: Of course I do.
MIKE NOVIC: Then you need to come out with the story yourself. Make it the first thing you talk about at the breakfast.

INT. MEDICAL BUILDING
{Jack asks ALAN if he can ask Janet a few questions. ALAN wants to go in first and make sure she's up for it.} {ALAN walks towards Janet's room as Jack and Teri are in the hallway. Jack's cell rings}
JACK BAUER: Nina. That was fast work.
IRA GAINES: Do what I tell you Jack and you might see your daughter again. Say yes if you understand me.
JACK BAUER: Yes.
IRA GAINES: Now smile at your wife like nothing's wrong.
{Jack smiles at Teri as she smiles back. Jack sees some cameras that have been tapped.}
IRA GAINES: That's right, were watching you. Walk away now or Kimberly gets a bullet in her head.
{Jack walks down the hallway. Teri is confused}
IRA GAINES: Now continue down the hall. Jack I don't have all day.
JACK BAUER: What do you want me to do?
IRA GAINES: Go out the north entrance.
{Gaines is at his compound sitting in a little office shack underground. He has computers everywhere and monitors of the medical building and CTU.}
IRA GAINES: That's right, I'm still watching you.
CUT TO: ALAN YORK ENTERING JANETS ROOM BY HIMSELF.
JANET YORK: Hi Janet.........Looks like you had a tough night.
{Janet is lying in her bed with IV's attached to her.}
JANET YORK: Who are you?............Where's my father?
{ALAN YORK GRABS JANETS IV AND CLOG'S IT. SUFFOCATING JANET. SHE STRUGGLES BUT ALAN IS TOO STRONG. HER HEART MONITOR GOES BLANK AS ALAN TURNS IT OFF. JANET IS DEAD. ALAN WALKS OUT OF THE ROOM.}

JACK BAUER: Where am I going?
IRA GAINES: On the left is a silver Taurus. Get in.
IRA GAINES: Open the glove compartment.
JACK BAUER: First prove to me my daughter's still alive.
{Gaines grabs Kim for a second.}
KIM BAUER: Daddy…
JACK BAUER: Kimberly, are you okay?
KIM BAUER: Yeah, they haven't hurt me but I…
{Gaines tosses her aside.}
IRA GAINES: There's a metal box inside the glove compartment take it out.
{Jack finds a earpiece}
IRA GAINES: Tuck that in your ear. Now say something.
JACK BAUER: If you hurt my daughter I will kill you.
IRA GAINES: Good, that's a clear reception....You won't need the phone, lose it out the window......Out the window Jack.
{Gaines has two men in a car behind Jack}
JACK BAUER: Where do you want me to go?
IRA GAINES: You're going to the office like everyone else.
JACK BAUER: CTU?
IRA GAINES: That's where you work.
{Jack head for CTU}
FADE OUT:::
INT. MEDICAL BUILDING
{Teri calls Jack but his phone is off. ALAN enters}
ALAN YORK: Where's Jack?
TERI BAUER: He went to take a call but…
ALAN YORK: I need to talk to him. Janet told me where Kim was. This is the address.
{Teri calls Jack again but no luck}
TERI BAUER: JACK!!!!!!!JACK!!!!!!!! He was just here, I don't know where he went.
ALAN YORK: Teri, I'll take you to the house.
TERI BAUER: Okay. I guess I'll call from the car.
FADE OUT:::
EXT. IRA GAINES TERRORIST COMPOUND
{Rick puts Dan in a hole dug up in the ground and starts to pour dirt on him.}
RICK: Sorry man.
KIM BAUER: We're going to be okay.
RICK: Maybe.
KIM BAUER: I just spoke with my dad. That Gaines guy put me on the phone with him.
RICK: What does Gaines want from your dad? Money?
KIM BAUER: No, I don't think it's about money. My dad's gonna get us out.
RICK: He doesn't even know where we are.
KIM BAUER: Doesn't matter. He'll find us.
FADE OUT.
{In ALAN'S car NINA calls TERI because she can't get a hold of JACK}
NINA MYERS: Teri, It's Nina. I have important information for him but he's not answering his cell.
TERI BAUER: I thought he was just on the phone with you.
NINA MYERS: No I haven't heard from in over a half hour.
TERI BAUER: Nina what is going on?
NINA MYERS: There's a body Jack asked me to ID. Tell him the victim's name is Alan York.
TERI BAUER: I'm sorry Nina could you say that again.
NINA MYERS: Alan York.
TERI BAUER: Thank you. {Hangs up}
{Teri at this point is speechless and does not know what to do.}
{The sun begins to rise over the California mountains as ALAN and TERI drive up some hills}
